Andy Sampson, Senior Bid Manager, recognised a need to improve the quality of bid writing, both within the core bid team, and for technical staff contributing to bid documents.
“The team needed to learn how to turn their knowledge into writing that is compelling, clear, concise and written with the reader in mind,” says Andy. “I was certain that with better writing, we could really boost our chances of winning.”
The training solution: Two one-day Structured Bid Writing courses, with tailored examples and exercises
After meeting with Writing Machine Academy, Andy decided to run two Structured Bid Writing (Fundamentals) courses. Writing Machine Academy worked with Andy to tweak the course outline, and tailor exercises and examples to suit the delegates’ requirements.
“The Structured Bid Writing courses were spot on,” says Andy. “The tailored exercises worked really well, and people left the training with real skills and techniques that they could implement immediately, on a day-to-day basis. I’m very confident that our writers now have the foundation they need to produce clearer, punchier proposals.
“We’ve had similar courses from other training providers, but Writing Machine Academy’s course stands out as really matching our needs. The trainer was great, and the content was just right. I’m now looking at running more Structured Bid Writing courses for my core bid team.”
Another 8 courses followed.
Delegates were asked to give a score out of five on a list of feedback questions such as ‘Quality of the training content’, ‘Quality of the trainer’ and ‘I have learned new techniques that will enhance my writing’. The average score was 4.6 out of 5.
