Helping ABB to write bids for the right audience

Quick facts

About
ABB is a leader in power and automation technologies that enable utility and industry customers to improve their performance while lowering environmental impact. ABB in the UK operates from more than 20 locations nationally and employs around 2,300 people.

Courses

  • Structured Bid Writing (Advanced)

ABB’s bid team needed to learn to write bids that expressed the company’s depth of engineering knowledge and solutions in a clear and competitive way. In addition, they needed to learn how to write bids to address a wider audience.

ABB’s bids were no longer just read by technical engineers; they were also increasingly being read by commercial and procurement employees. Richard Holliday, General Manager at ABB Power Generation, felt that the company needed to take a step back and consider whether it was addressing each audience appropriately. Moreover, ABB UK was expanding. Two new divisions, together with internal promotions, meant new employees joining the bid team – new employees who needed formal training.

The training solution: An advanced Structured Bid Writing course to teach delegates how to write to a changing audience

ABB selected Writing Machine Academy’s two-day Structured Bid Writing course. On the second day delegates were taught about executive summary writing, answering the question and persuasive PowerPoint.

Client feedback

Delegates were asked to give a score out of five on a list of feedback questions such as ‘Quality of the training content’, ‘Quality of the trainer’ and ‘I have learned new techniques that will enhance my writing’. The average score was 4 out of 5.
