Training multilingual product, business development and bid managers at Indra Navia to produce more competitive and compelling content

Quick facts

About
Indra Navia (formerly Northrop Grumman Park Air Systems) supplies leading-edge communication, navigation, and surveillance technology to the air traffic management industry. Based in Oslo and Horten, Norway, the company currently has operations in 111 countries, with over 1,100 diverse customers.

Courses

  • Structured Bid Writing (Fundamentals and Advanced)
  • Structured Business Writing (eLearning course)

Indra Navia AS bought 25 licences for Writing Machine Academy’s Structured Business Writing eLearning course.

The company is providing the eLearning to its business development and bid teams. Special Advisor Gerry Benz believes the teams are already seeing very positive results. “Not everyone has completed the course just yet. However, we can already see signs that the team has grown in confidence, and absorbed many valuable techniques for communicating clear and concise messages in their writing.”

Gerry particularly likes the design of the eLearning. “The interactive eLearning format is great,” he says. “It lets each participant proceed at their own pace, and the ability to re-visit course modules over weeks and months is a useful tool for reinforcing and refreshing the learning experience.”

A two-day bid writing course and a one-day hands-on session for theoretical and practical understanding

In his previous role as Business Support Manager, Gerry asked Writing Machine Academy to help his team write more effective bid material.

Although the team included some of the world’s foremost product experts, this was rarely communicated in their writing. Of the 11 delegates, only two wrote fluently in English and three even wrote in ‘Norlish’. The result was that the team struggled to produce competitive or compelling English documents.

Writing Machine Academy proposed a solution that went beyond telling the delegates what they needed to do. We delivered our two-day Structured Bid Writing course to delegates in Oslo, and addressed the team’s needs in a more hands-on way with a one-day bid workshop. The course taught delegates the importance of beginning with a strong, competitive message and explored the best methods for articulating it in the most compelling, reader-friendly way. In the workshop, delegates worked on current proposals with a professional writer. This practical experience helped the team develop real confidence in their bid-writing ability.

Client feedback

Delegates were asked to give a score out of five on a list of feedback questions such as ‘Quality of the training content’, ‘Quality of the trainer’ and ‘I have learned new techniques that will enhance my writing’. The average score was 4.5 out of 5.

We were impressed with the writing training we received from Writing Machine Academy previously. We’ve now given our business development and bid teams the opportunity to participate in Writing Machine Academy’s Structured Business Writing online course.
