Teaching teams at Mitchells & Butlers to produce internal documents with a clear and concise style
Quick facts
Mitchells & Butlers is the UK’s leading operator of around 1,700 managed pubs, bars and restaurants. Established in 1898, the company now employs over 40,000 people and owns brands such as Harvester, O’Neills and Toby Carvery.
Courses
Mitchells & Butlers’ brand managers are often required to produce papers for senior audiences as part of internal campaigns.
They found it difficult to write these papers and often they were excessively long with a large number of appendices. The finance strategy planning team had similar issues with internal papers and emails. Both teams required a course that could provide a best practice for business writing, increase confidence and emphasise the importance of clear and concise writing.
The training solution: Business Writing training, delivered to both teams on different dates
Mitchells & Butlers chose Writing Machine Academy to deliver its Structured Business Writing course to address the similar needs of two very different teams. After discussing the particular needs of the delegates and reviewing examples of their writing, Writing Machine Academy went on to teach delegates how to produce succinct and well-structured writing that communicates a clear message, tailored to a specific audience. Both were highly successful as indicated by delegates’ feedback.
Client feedback
Delegates were asked to give a score out of five on a list of feedback questions such as ‘Quality of the training content’, ‘Quality of the trainer’ and ‘I have learned new techniques that will enhance my writing’. The average score was 4.5 out of 5.
“I’ll be able to produce better laid-out reports and emails that are easier for the end-user to understand”
